ALKALOID
ALKALOID is the name of Mayoi's idol unit, of which there are three other members. Their circumstances are such that their boss (Eichi Tenshouin) gathered the four of them up, called them all underachievers, and then put them into a group and told them to do well at the next big event or be fired. All of them were strangers at the start, all from various backgrounds and were outsiders in their own way. They came together through a shared desire to survive their circumstances and as a result became as close as family. Mayoi loves ALKALOID very much.

Tatsumi Kazehaya
Mayoi and Tatsumi are the older members of the group and as such, have formed a sort of "spousal" relationship. Tatsumi has jokingly referred to himself as the father of the group and Mayoi the mother, going as far as to call him Mamayoi in an instance of Mayoi fussing over Tatsumi's well being. Tatsumi is one of the first people to bring to attention Mayoi's nurturing nature and is unconditionally affectionate and supportive of him in ways Mayoi has a hard time accepting. Really, Mayoi sometimes finds him intimidating, questioning his intentions because surely no one would be this nice to him, right? The reality is that Tatsumi is that taken with him and doesn't seem to realize he's being a little overbearing with his affection.

Tatsumi is also a priest and Mayoi is sometimes extremely terrified Tatsumi will exorcise him one day. There's a lot to unpack about that, but until canon relinquishes the deathgrip it has on Mayoi's backstory, it's just going to stay in the suitcase under the bed until further notice.

Aira Shiratori

The youngest member of their group, the one with the least amount of experience as an idol, and probably the sole holder of their braincell. Aira is a sassy idol otaku who at some point, convinced himself he was leagues less talented than everyone else, and as a result, developed something of a complex about trying to catch up to the rest of them. Mayoi is very distressed over this and very frequently checks on him and tries to make sure he doesn't overdo it while being as helpful as he can as their group's trainer. Mayoi is extremely fond of Aira and will also happily tease the boy when he has the opportunity. Aira is also very cute and it is sometimes too much for Mayoi to deal with. Much like a person might hold up their cat and proclaim in a weird voice what a cute little dude they are, Mayoi wishes to do this with Aira, only instead of getting cat claws, he gets training equipment thrown at him. Alas.

This is far beyond his canon point, but I think also that Mayoi chose Aira as his Plus-One for his trip to the States is very significant. He was there to attend an awards ceremony for a movie he was in and he would not have been there alone, but he still opted to have Aira come with him while he was in New York as his emotional support.

Hiiro Amagi

Their fearless leader and also a boy who, until several months ago, had never seen a car before in his life. Mayoi is fond of Hiiro in much the same way he is fond of Aira, though he finds him a little intimidating sometimes (You may notice a pattern here about how Mayoi feels about 99% of people he comes across.) However, despite Hiiro's naivete and sometimes extremely rash behavior, he finds him a capable leader of their unit. He does not have to fuss over him like he fusses over Aira, but he still tends to want to look after him in much the same way.

OTHER

Shinobu Sengoku

Mayoi's relationship with Shinobu is ...complex. Mayoi has had so little contact with other people that he is tragically undersocalized and starved of positive contact and reinforcement. That will get covered in more detail later but it's important to know because to put it very simply, Mayoi has a fixation on Shinobu that boarders on unhealthy all because Shinobu befriended him under their shared interests. As a result Mayoi adores Shinobu almost too much and holds him on a very high, lofty pedestal as someone often does when a person shows them 1 (one) kindness and they can't cope with it. Mayoi has no experience managing feelings like this and he struggles with it in the same way he does his intrusive thoughts, but because he is still learning how to manage boundaries in front of other people, he often slips and comes off weird and creepy without meaning to.

Shinobu knows this of Mayoi and is still readily friends with him anyway. He knows Mayoi is actually a very gentle person who is just exceedingly strange and the two have a great time being in the Ninja Association together. Shinobu is someone who struggles with anxiety much like Mayoi and so a lot of his weird habits are things he understands. This is another important instance of the people in Mayoi's life knowing his flaws and struggles and accepting him anyway, and it's how Mayoi has been able to improve a lot over time the more he's around people when he is so used to literally hiding in the walls.

Madara Mikejima

Madara considers Mayoi his greatest arch-rival, hilariously, because Mayoi is incredibly afraid of him. Madara is known as one of the best solo-act Idols in the business currently, and when ALKALOID was in a panic trying to figure out how they were going to put on a performance with a week to prepare, Madara came to offer his services as a trainer. This would have been great if they all weren't flat broke and Madara wasn't giving off the sketchiest vibes.

This all culminated in Madara outing Mayoi as the mysterious phantom of the building who gives advice to idols practicing alone at night (Yes. Mayoi is a great big Phantom of the Opera reference but minus the murder) and challenges him to a dance and sing off to prove who would be best option for a trainer.

Mayoi whoops Madara's ass in sheer talent and skill while performing Madara's own song and choreography. Madara has not forgotten this and even after a great deal of time has passed, thinks of Mayoi has a worthy rival. Mayoi however, is still terrified of him.
